"Mules" carefully guide this behemoth Italian "Panamax" cargo ship that has been designed specifically to leave the minimum two feet of clearance on all sides while transiting the canal's locks. My Central American journey ends in Panama when I put my car into a steel container loaded onto a similar ship bound for South America.
